Miles McPherson, author of Do Something! Make Your Life Count, is a man radically transformed by God, and the Senior Pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, one of the largest churches in the United States.
A former defensive back with the San Diego Chargers, Miles also founded and served as President of Miles Ahead, an outreach ministry that was focused on sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with teens and adults all over the world.
Two years into his pro football career, Miles was battling a drug problem and living an immoral lifestyle. That’s when he gave his life to Jesus Christ, and never looked back. Miles began to work as a Bible teacher, youth pastor and speaker, developing a track record of appealing to diverse audiences, large and small.
Known for his frank and funny delivery, Miles loves to call people to think about how God has prepared them to do something significant with their lives. He’s a prolific speaker who can talk to anyone, from prison inmates to senior citizens. He challenges everyone to go out and do something for God!
In 1992, McPherson founded Miles Ahead, a non-profit organization that reached out to youth around the globe with the Gospel. From its inception, more than 52,000 young people gave their lives to the Lord. McPherson also earned an Emmy Award in 2007 for a documentary on methamphetamine, Master Meth.
McPherson founded The Rock Church in 2000. More than 3,300 attended the first service on Feb. 27, in Montezuma Hall at San Diego State University in what is believed to have been the largest opening service in the nation’s history. The congregation grew quickly. Named by Outreach Magazine as one of the country’s fastest growing churches, the Rock currently has more than 12,000 people attend weekly services at its two campuses, in addition to an online church attendance of 4,000.
Out of his vision for the Rock Church and for the church worldwide, McPherson wrote Do Something! Make Your Life Count, which has a companion DVD, participant’s guide and small group leader’s kit available to help you make a difference. Under his leadership, the Rock Church committed to making a biblical impact on their community, and decided to do something. By the end of 2011, they had provided over 700,000 volunteer hours and saved an estimated $2 million to the City of San Diego and continue to serve the city through community service projects.
